6 Tips For Managing Your Anger
Every person has been angry from time to time. I have. Haven’t you?
Anger is normal, but some people have trouble controlling it. This can create lots of negative effects. It can ruin relationships, careers, or even lead to crime.
Learning to deal with and control your anger is very important. Here are some suggestions to help manage your anger.
1. Close friends or family members are often understanding and easy to TALK to. Do you have someone like that in your life? Ask them if they would be willing to listen. Talking when you are angry allows you to tell your side of the story and tell why you are angry. But a good friend will be able to not only listen but also give you a different perspective – maybe something you have not thought about. Talking it out can help you to sort through all the issues involved with your anger.
2. WRITING is a great way to deal with anger. The best part? No one talks back. You have the final word while getting things off your chest. Sometimes you will be able to identify the “triggers” that cause you to have outbursts. You can write with pen and paper or on the computer – both are great.
3. Have you ever been so angry that you wanted to do something physical to that person? Really “take it out” on him? Try working out extra hard at the gym – punch that heavy bag in there. If nothing else, find a large, rather stiff pillow, and have it out with the pillow. It is amazing how this will release that angry energy and you’ve hurt no one in the process.
4. I know this is difficult, but taking a VACATION or getting away from the situation and spending some alone time works really well. By removing yourself from the environment that causes your anger and frustration, you will see things in a new light. You will probably find some solutions to your problem, too.
5. Prayer and meditation work well for some people with anger management problems. Both of these activities give you a chance to be alone with your thoughts in a way to release tension. Letting go of your anger and negative thoughts will make a positive change in your life.
6. You might also try some deep breathing exercises, any kind of physical exercise, getting more sleep, getting yourself outside to enjoy nature, learning to laugh, and either playing an instrument or listening to music. All of these are great methods for releasing your anger and therefore learning to manage your anger.
So work on using some of these ways to manage your anger. Uncontrolled anger brings lots of adverse consequences. Controlled anger will let you a happier life.
