PostHeaderIcon The Best All Natural Migraine Remedies

If you’re reading this then you like me have suffered from Migraines and I’m sure you’ve taken many medications to help deal with the attack when it begins. In fact many of us carry around pain medication with us where ever we go just on the off chance that we get struck down while in the middle of something.

As I’ve mentioned in my other articles I’ve discussed the keys to dealing with your migraines. Lowering your stress levels, eating better, eliminating trigger foods and getting some regular exercise will all help to minimize your attacks.

But there’s one piece missing. To live migraine free you need to be able to keep your body in a healthy state. So we here at the Migraine Freedom Team have put together a list of natural vitamins, nutrients and herbs that are particularly helpful for migraineurs.

1) Magnesium: Extremely vital to your good health. Research shows that there is a relationship between migraine and being magnesium deficient. Evidence shows that Magnesium’s critical function in expanding muscles and opening up the blood vessels located in the brain may be a key factor. Magnesium supplementation results in no serious side effects beyond diarrhea if taken in excessive amounts. In cases where intravenous magnesium sulfate has been given to migraine sufferers it?s been found that the migraines were eliminated a migraine within 15 minutes.

2) Vitamin B2 Also known as riboflavin, vitamin B2 is required for a wide variety of cellular processes. Like the other B vitamins, it plays a key role in energy production in your?mitochondria. Mitochondrial dysfunction is thought to be a factor for migraine sufferers.

3) Feverfew is a medicinal herb that has been used for generations. It has been used to treat fevers, headaches, arthritis and digestive problems. It seems to help relax cerebral blood vessels as well as reduce inflammation. These are both important elements in migraine headache attacks.

4) Butterbur was used by native Americans as a remedy for headache and inflammation. Butterbur studies have shown an association between Butterbur and a decrease in migraine frequency. Butterbur naturally contains components called pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA’s) which are toxic to the liver so it is important to be careful when taking a butterbur supplement that it is PA free.

5) Co-Enzyme Q10 otherwise known co-q10 works in your mitochondria where its involved in producing energy through a process known as oxidative phosphorylation. As I mentioned in the riboflavin section, it?s been shown that some migraine sufferers have a dysfunction in their mitochondria and co-q10. Co-enzyme Q10 is very safe even in large doses and has a host of other health benefits protecting the heart, providing more energy and being a powerful anti-oxidant and more.

6) Essential Fatty Acids:Neurogenic-inflammation (inflammation in the brain) is thought to be involved in the causation of your migraines. Enzymes contained in our cells actually cause inflammation. This inflammation usually protects us when we’re injured, dealing with allergies, or in diseased states. Your body also has an enzyme that who’s job is to lower inflammation. However, when the ratio of inflammatory to anti-inflammatory enzymes become unbalanced (which easily happens due to pollution, stress, and toxins) the result is damage and the deterioration. This can show up as arthritis in your joints, damage to the brain causing Alzheimer?s disease, damage to your arteries causing hearth attacks and stroke or in this case contributing to your migraine attacks. Essential fatty acids provide the nutrients that your body needs to bring these enzymes back into balance cooling the inflammation.

This list may seem like a lot to take but its worth it. To avoid having to take handfuls of pills (I try to keep my pill popping to a minimum when ever possible) you should look for a product that contains a combination of ingredients in one. That way you get the benefit of fortifying yourself in multiple ways at once while lowering the number of pills you have to take daily.

To no more migraines!
