Golden State Warriors in ‘09-’10 Season
The Golden State warriors had a major let down season in 08′-09′ failing to win even 30 games, 29-53 overall. This was mostly due to the loss of Baron Davis.
The warriors were young and motivated players that seemingly came out of nowhere and swiped the number eight seed in the Western Conference, they went on to miraculously defeat the Dallas Mavericks in a first round seven game series, knocking off the team with the NBA’s best record and the top seed in the Western Conference. The basketball world couldn’t believe what they had witnessed!
The Warriors are not contenders in the West by any means; they should be fun to watch with their high scoring fast pace games. Many will focus their attention on scoring sensation Stephen Curry – son of Del Curry who was a good shooter himself – and how he will fit in the NBA.
Stephen Jackson was the leading scorer on the Warriors in 08-’09′ with 20 points per game followed by Jamal Crawford – who is not on the Warriors anymore.
F Cory Maggette is one of the better players on the team and should have another solid season. Being this is his 10th season he is the veteran that needs to keep the team focused all season long.
Anthony Morrow proved himself as a very capable scorer and an exciting young player. Brandan Wright should emerge some more after a quiet rookie year, and Anthony Randolph showed the basketball world that he has the potential to be one of the best big men in the game a few years down the line.
The Warriors lack a scoring big man to create offense for them when they need it. The guard play for the Warriors have been good but the lack of big man depth hurts their team.
Coach Don Nelson likes the “run & gun” type offense but he even knows that to win games in the league they must attempt to play defense now and again. Nelson is second all time in career wins and within the next couple seasons he should break the mark set by Lenny Wilkins.
