Everyday people try to stop smoking without NRT and within a few days find that the task is beyond their control. This habit is very difficult to break and the longer that an individual has been smoking the harder it is to quit. There can be allergic reactions to many of the nicotine replacement treatment products that are on the market which further increase the inability of a person to stop smoking. But for many people the need to stop smoking is crucial and can impact their life expectancy and health.

People are creatures of habit and learn to do things in steps. This is true of bad habits also. They were not just started, they were learned behaviors. By the time they become a conscious act, a habit has been ingrained in the subconscious and accepted as a normal part of living. However, most people who attempt to stop smoking do not take this into consideration. Although the act of smoking is a learned behavior, with the side effect of creating an addiction, it is not treated as such.

When most individuals decide to stop smoking there has not been a real plan formed on how that is going to be accomplished. They have not researched what the effects will be to break this addictive habit. It is not easy to stop smoking without NRT and there are some steps that an individual can take to increase their success.

It is important for people to work with their subconscious to unlearn the behavior or act of smoking prior to incorporating a treatment that will alleviate the symptoms of the addition. Without a plan and schedule this can be very difficult. While one may make a conscious decision and act on it in a split second, the subconscious does not react that quickly to breaking a habit. Therefore some easy tasks should be done that will ensure the success of a person who wants to stop smoking without NRT.

This exercise may sound unimportant, however, it will be very beneficial to the person quitting. When an individual is hypnotized they are put in a state of relaxation that allows their subconscious to accept suggestions. The closest to that level of relaxation that an individual is in when they are aware at both a conscious and subconscious level is right before they wake up and right before they go to sleep. This form of self-hypnosis works for many changes that a person wants to make, but is key to stop smoking without NRT.

The subconscious responds to suggestions. That is why many people find hypnotherapy helpful. The state of relaxation that a person is in during hypnotherapy is the same that is found right before sleeping and right before waking. This is the time when an individual’s subconscious mind is most open to suggestion. Self-hypnosis is not a hard task. It is very easy to give oneself suggestion to improve diet, lose weight, etc. The problem arises when an individual “thinks” about the suggestion. Thinking, or discussing an action with the subconscious raises a persons awareness and quickly removes them from the state of relaxation they need to be in for a subconscious suggestion to be effective.

Each time one is going to smoke during the next 30 days it is important that a ritual be incorporated. The ritual includes holding the cigarette, looking at it closely and noticing the texture of it. Once this is done, before lighting up, think, “XX is the date I’m not going to smoke anymore.” This is not a self-talk conversation, just a statement made to the subconscious mind. It serves to reinforce what the suggestion given during relaxation is. If one buys a pack of cigarettes, the same exercise is done. Hold the pack, look at it, feel it and think “xx is the date I’m not going to smoke anymore.” Most people don’t realize that the subconscious mind is a tremendous way to break an old habit, create a new habit, or develop a new attitude. It is also the most powerful enemy of change that an individual has. The subconscious mind can set up obstacles that are very diffiult to overcome because it/you know all of your weaknesses. It is important to use the subconscious as an ally when one wises to successfully stop smoking without NRT.

By the time that the actual quitting day has arrived most people using this simple set of exercises find that they have already reduced their use of nicotine significantly and the withdrawal symptoms that most people suffer so severely do not affect them as badly. This is because the subconscious can make a person crave something or discard it without thinking it through at a conscious level.
